Character(s) In-Game: Elena Gilbert
CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Buffy Summers
Age: 22
World Description: Wiki. "In every generation there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer."
History: Wikia
Death: At the end of "Chosen", Buffy isn't fast enough to catch the bus as it races out of town and instead dies as Sunnydale is destroyed.
What are your plans for this character in-game? Buffy has spent the last seven years of her life being responsible for protecting the world, the Chosen One whose fate it was to die fighting. In Beacon, I hope she'll have the chance to perhaps finally be part of a team instead of the one everyone looks to for leadership. That said, she'll definitely be part of the team trying to figure out what the heck is going on and how do they keep everyone safe.
What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? Horror and survival elements; it's what she knows, so it will be fairly easy for her to just take things in stride. But also the mystery elements, because she doesn't have her usual resources at hand to help her this time.
How does your character generally get along with other people? Pretty well, so long as they aren't pretentious assholes trying to tell her what to do. She used to be the popular girl, making friends wherever she went, but it's been harder with a secret identity.
What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? She'll be a little perturbed at being stuck in some interdimensional purgatory, but she just saved the world and helped change the fate of all future Slayers, so she's in a relatively good place, other than being perturbed at how she's been waylaid on her way back to heaven.
Skills/Abilities:† As a Slayer, Buffy has supernatural speed, strength, agility, and durability. She also has accelerated healing, heightened awareness of surroundings, and a "spidey-sense" for detecting supernatural creatures, but especially vampires. And there's the occasional (incomprehensible) prophetic dream and magical access to the collective memories of the Slayers. Slayers also have a natural affinity for weapons of all types; Buffy can pick up any weapon and learn how to use it almost instantly. None of this means that Buffy is invincible - she's died three times before now (drowning, mystical energy electrocution, gunshot), it just never stuck very well when her friends were involved.
† On the normal girl side of things, Buffy is a pretty good cook and a decent student in the right academic environment (ie, college vs high school). Driving is not a lauded part of her skill set.
Flaws/Weaknesses:† Little thought is given to her own safety when innocents are in danger. Threaten her friends, children, a random person on the street, and she'll throw herself into all sorts of dangerous situations to get people home safe. This stems from her Duty as the Slayer, because she has the strength and ability to do what others can't, and so she has a responsibility to prevent others from coming to harm whenever possible. Since she can take pain and suffering and walk away from it, others shouldn't have to.
† Buffy can be prideful and it colors her interactions with others. Since she was called, she has been repeatedly told the story of being the Chosen One, the one girl in all the world with the strength and skill to hunt vampires and keep the darkness at bay. Even when a second slayer is called, Buffy's still The Slayer, the one who is actively averting apocalypses and keeping the Hellmouth from being opened. All of that power and responsibility would go to anyone's head, and it's resulted in Buffy legitimately thinking she's better than everyone else. She admits as much in her impromptu therapy session with vampire Holden — "They don't know. They haven't been through what I've been through. They're not the slayer. I am. Sometimes I feel- this is awful- I feel like I'm better than them. Superior."
† She doesn't take well to criticism or doubt of her abilities and decisions. She knows that she's not perfect, but that's a weakness that she can't let others see - she has to be the strong Slayer with all the right answers because it's what people expect of her and what she expects of herself. Any doubt of this heroic image is usually met with hostility or goes unacknowledged.
† Fears/Phobias: Being buried alive, and confined spaces by association. Becoming a vampire. The world being destroyed on her watch. Being abandoned by the people she loves. Everything since she's become a Slayer turning out to be completely in her own mind and not real.
Personality:† Buffy will do what has to be done, regardless of whether it's the popular decision. She's faced her own death to save the world, particularly with the Master and the portal opened by Glory. She killed her lover in order to stop a world-ending demon from being unleashed. She has been willing to take down friends in order to stop them from hurting others, she's made hard calls when leading others, all of which led to people she trusted turning against her.
† She empathizes strongly with others, especially those considered outcasts by society. Growing up, she was a Popular Girl, but becoming the Slayer meant being socially isolated by others, especially when her actions were considered weird. This is why she connected so well with Xander and Willow, and why she has fought back against bullies and the Popular Girls who put down others. She understands what it is to be on the outside and she wants better than that for others.
† She’s a leader, and she’s usually pretty good at it. As the Slayer, others look to her to take charge and when she does so without hesitation, they listen. It’s taken time, but she’s also learned how to listen to others and rely on them; no longer does she take on everything herself, but rather delegates where needed and draws on the strengths of those around her.
Items: Her bloody battle clothes and the scythe she was carrying when she died.
NOTE: I realize the hilarity and possible issues in playing both a vampire and a vampire slayer. I've played them both in the same game before though and it wasn't an issue. It's canon for Buffy to leave vampires alone so long as they're not harming humans or trying to end the world, so she'd keep an eye on Elena but be very hands off about things until given reason to act.
